​June is Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness about Alzheimer's disease and brain health. In the U.S., one in three seniors die with Alzheimer's or another type of dementia. It's also the cause of death for more people than breast cancer and prostate cancer combined.

BrainHQ is one tool available to your Independence Blue Cross (Independence) Medicare Advantage patients to help prevent cognitive decline and maintain brain health. Independence members can access BrainHQ via their One Pass™ fitness membership.

What is BrainHQ?

BrainHQ is an online brain health training program with unlimited access to games, puzzles, and exercises to improve attention, memory, focus, and other cognitive abilities. Proven to be effective in multiple gold-standard clinical trials, it was designed by an international group of neuroscientists using 30 years of research in neurological science.

Making brain exercise a priority for seniors

“Seniors today who exercise are using fitness technology more and more," says Dr. Heidi J. Syropoulos, a geriatrician and Independence Medical Director for Government Markets. “Exercising for brain health is also important, but not a big priority for many seniors."

Independence Medicare Advantage members can access BrainHQ through the One Pass dashboard at ibxmedicare.com/onepassregister. Or they can call One Pass at 1-877-504-6830 (TTY/TDD: 711). (One Pass replaced the previous Medicare Advantage fitness program in January 2023.)
