BlueCard is a national program administered by the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association.* It enables members of one Blue Plan to obtain health care benefits while traveling or living in another Blue Plan's service area.
The program links participating health care providers with the various independent Blue Cross® and Blue Shield® Plans across the U.S. and in approximately 170 countries and territories worldwide through a single electronic network for claims processing and reimbursement.
Coordination of Benefits Questionnaire
The BlueCard Coordination of Benefits Questionnaire helps determine if a member has coverage under multiple insurance plans and which plan is responsible for covering medical costs.
All out-of-area members should complete the questionnaire prior to receiving services from providers to ensure that each claim is paid quickly and properly.
Quick Guide to Blue Member ID Cards
When a Blue Plan member arrives at an office or facility, they should show their current member ID card. This helps identify the product the member has, which is needed to obtain health plan contact information and process the claim.
The guide provides information about the various ID cards that out-of-area members can have under a Blue Plan.
