The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) awarded Independence Blue Cross's (Independence) Keystone 65 HMO Medicare Advantage plans five out of five stars for the 2023 Star Ratings.
This is the second year in a row that Independence plans earned five stars. Independence's Personal Choice 65SM PPO plans also earned a strong four-star rating.
“It's the hard work of providers that helps us earn accolades like these," said Dr. Heidi Syropoulos, Independence medical director for Government Markets. “The high-quality care that you provide to patients plays a critical role in the Star Ratings."
Efforts like open communication with patients, promoting timely and appropriate health screenings, and managing chronic conditions all have an impact.
The Star Ratings were created by CMS to help individuals and caregivers compare the performance and quality of Medicare Advantage plans and Part D prescription drug plans. The ratings provide a scorecard on each plan's quality and performance. Recognition is based on topics such as member compliance with preventive care and screening recommendations, chronic condition management, customer service, access to care, and more.
“Earning five stars would not have been possible without the commitment of providers in our network to their patients," said Syropoulos. “We appreciate all you do. I hope you are as proud as we are about this important recognition."
