​Independence offers language assistance services

​Independence Blue Cross (Independence) provides free language assistance services for our members who speak a language other than English. Your Independence patients (or their friends or family members) can call the Customer Service number on the back of their member ID card to speak with a representative in their language. Members may also call for access to:

  • plan documents in large print, braille, or other languages
  • sign language interpreters with video conferencing
  • audio recordings
  • free telephone relay services via TTY/TDD: 711

Our members are diverse. In our service area, Spanish is spoken by more than five percent of the population.1 The next most spoken languages include: Chinese, French, Russian, Korean, and Italian.1 Learn more about the community by visiting the City of Philadelphia's Regional Community Health Needs Assessment 2022.

You can also learn more about the provision of language services and serving limited-English patients by completing the Think Cultural Health e-learning program, which offers nine continuing education credits for physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners.
