Independence is making the option of virtual care a more significant part of its future by updating its telemedicine policy for commercial members and including many of the expanded services covered during the COVID-19 pandemic. The updated policy took effect
July 1, 2021.
Many specialists, not just primary care providers, can use telemedicine as a complement to in-person physical and mental health care.

The current reimbursement rates will remain in effect until December 31, 2021.
We will regularly evaluate this policy, telemedicine technical capabilities, and
industry trends to make sure we are meeting our members' and providers' needs.
