Effective July 1, 2021, Independence has reinstated requirements for commercial members who need Durable Medical Equipment (DME). The reinstated requirements include:
- face-to-face evaluation by a healthcare provider (through telemedicine)
- signature and proof of delivery
Independence will continue to waive DME replacement and proof of delivery requirements for Medicare Advantage members effective March 6, 2020, through the duration of the public health emergency.
In addition, Independence will not enforce clinical indications for coverage for certain respiratory, infusion pump, and therapeutic continuous glucose monitors for Medicare Advantage members from
March 6, 2020, through the duration of the public health emergency.
