As previously communicated, effective March 1, 2018, Independence will require precertification for interventional pain management services under the Musculoskeletal Utilization Management Program. Independence has delegated the precertification process for these services to AIM Specialty Health® (AIM), an independent company.
Submitting requests to AIM
Starting February 19, 2018, ordering or performing providers can submit precertification requests to AIM for interventional pain management services scheduled for dates of service on or after March 1, 2018. Precertification requests can be submitted through AIM's ProviderPortalSM, available through AIM's website, or through the NaviNet® web portal by selecting Authorizations from the Workflows menu and then AIM.
Note: When submitting precertification requests for interventional pain management services, you will be prompted to answer additional questions related to the setting of the requested services.
