Independence, along with Laboratory Corporation of
America® Holdings (LabCorp) and Wills Eye Hospital, is
pleased to announce a diabetic retinopathy screening pilot program for
Philadelphia-area Independence members who are diagnosed with Type 1 Adult
Diabetes or Type 2 Diabetes.
Between 40 and 45 percent of Americans diagnosed with diabetes have some
stage of diabetic retinopathy, although only about half are aware of
it.1 To help prevent severe vision loss, providers should work with
their patients to:
- receive regular eye exams;
- control blood sugar;
- control blood pressure;
- intervene early on vision problems.
Providers are encouraged to send their patients to participating LabCorp
Patient Service Centers to receive a diabetic retinopathy screening. Three
LabCorp Patient Service Centers in Northeast Philadelphia are participating in
the pilot program:
- 101 East Olney Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19120
(267-335-4106)
- 15200 Bustleton Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19116 (215-437-7970
)
- 3790 Morrell Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19114
(267-538-3598)
