As the area's leading health insurer, Independence Blue Cross is steadfastly
committed to its mission of enhancing the health and wellness of the people and
communities we serve.
In support of this mission we have taken a close look at our current tools,
systems, and processes to identify opportunities to streamline and improve.
Earlier this year, we announced an agreement we established with Highmark to
use their core operating platform for our core processing activities. Moving
our processing capabilities to a new platform will help us gain efficiencies
and lower operating costs. It will also help us to add new capabilities that
enhance the overall customer experience.
Beginning in 2013, Blue-branded business will begin moving in a series of waves
over a 12 to 24 month period according to customer and the kind of health plans
each customer offers.
We have had a strong, productive relationship with Highmark for decades and
this is yet another example of how we are working with our Blue partners to
transform the delivery of health care.
As a key early step in the platform activities, we will begin to engage trading
partners and clearinghouses on upcoming EDI changes.
We are committed to working closely with our physicians and hospitals to
provide continued information, support, and necessary training. IBC is also
committed to ensuring a seamless transition with comprehensive communications
and tools to support our members and providers before, during, and after the
migration to the new operating platform.
