With the recent outbreak of measles disease in the surrounding Pennsylvania and New Jersey area, we want to remind providers about vaccine coverage for Independence commercial members.
According to the
Advisory Committee on Immunizations Practice (ACIP), "during a measles outbreak, efforts should be made to ensure that all individuals at risk for exposure are vaccinated or have acceptable evidence of immunity." Evidence of adequate vaccination consists of documentation of two doses of a measles-containing vaccine. For individuals who lack evidence of immunity, a vaccination regime with a measles-containing vaccine should be provided.
Our coverage is aligned with ACIP's recommendation. Independence covers the measles, mumps, rubella (MMR) vaccine as a preventive service with $0 cost-share.
If you suspect an outbreak or are unsure whether your patient belongs to a group at increased risk, please contact your local health department.
