We would like to remind you of the procedures to
follow when your patients need routine follow-up care
after an Emergency Room/Department (ER) visit.
AmeriHealth New Jersey members should not be
referred back to the ER for follow-up services when
they can be referred to their primary physician or
specialty care physician for treatment without risk of
medically harmful consequences.
Examples of routine follow-up care that members
should not have performed in the ER include, but are
not limited to, the following:
- having a prescription extended that was written in
the ER;
- returning to the ER for reapplication of bandages,
splints, or wraps;
- having ER-administered sutures removed.
As we prepare our industry for Health Care Reform,
it is important that we identify ways to make this
transition more efficient and effective for our members
as well as our providers. Thank you for working with us
to make this possible.
If you have any questions, please contact your
Hospital/Ancillary Services Coordinator.
