Measles disease outbreak and vaccine coverage for AmeriHealth commercial members

May 20, 2019

With the recent outbreak of measles disease in the surrounding New Jersey and Pennsylvania area, we want to remind providers about vaccine coverage for AmeriHealth commercial members.

According to the Advisory Committee on Immunizations Practice (ACIP), "during a measles outbreak, efforts should be made to ensure that all individuals at risk for exposure are vaccinated or have acceptable evidence of immunity." Evidence of adequate vaccination consists of documentation of two doses of a measles-containing vaccine. For individuals who lack evidence of immunity, a vaccination regimen with a measles-containing vaccine should be provided.

Our coverage is aligned with ACIP's recommendation. AmeriHealth covers the measles, mumps, rubella (MMR) vaccine as a preventive service with $0 cost-share.

If you suspect an outbreak or are unsure whether your patient belongs to a group at increased risk, please contact your local health department.
