As we continue to transition to our next generation platform, we want to remind providers about the appropriate reporting requirements for discharge status code 30 – Still a Patient.
A patient discharge status code is a two-digit code that identifies where the patient is at the conclusion of a health care facility encounter or at the end of a billing cycle (the 'through' date of a claim).
Discharge status code 30 – Still a Patient can be used on both inpatient and outpatient claims. It is reported for billing for leave of absence days or for interim billing.
It is appropriate to report on type of bill frequency codes:
- 2 – Interim – First Claim
- 3 – Interim – Continuing Claim
It is inappropriate to report on type of bill frequency code:
- 1 – Admit Through Discharge Claim
When discharge status 30 is reported on a type of bill frequency code 1, the claim will be denied for incorrect billing.
