On April 1, 2023, a federal law ended the continuous coverage requirement for Medicaid recipients that was put in place during the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency. As a result, NJ FamilyCare (New Jersey's Medicaid program) has resumed annual eligibility renewals for all Medicaid beneficiaries. All members enrolled in a NJ FamilyCare program will be reviewed to see if they still qualify for coverage.
AmeriHealth HMO, Inc. and AmeriHealth Insurance Company of New Jersey (collectively, AmeriHealth) is asking all in-network providers to help keep their impacted patients informed about this change and encourage them to act now to maintain their health care coverage.
Here are the steps your patients can take now to ensure that they stay covered:
- Update their information: NJ FamilyCare/Medicaid recipients should confirm or update their contact information by calling NJ FamilyCare at 1-800-701-0710 (TTY:711). This will ensure that they don't miss any communications about their health care coverage.
- Respond to mail from NJ FamilyCare/Medicaid: NJ FamilyCare will mail renewals to all members in the year between April 1, 2023, and March 31, 2024. NJ FamilyCare/Medicaid recipients should look for and promptly respond to mail from the State of New Jersey or their local county board of social services. If NJ FamilyCare requests information, they need to respond right away to avoid a gap in their NJ FamilyCare coverage.
If a patient no longer qualifies for coverage through NJ FamilyCare/Medicaid, they may be referred to GetCoveredNJ, New Jersey's official health insurance marketplace, so they can shop for and purchase affordable health care coverage. Patients who will lose their NJ FamilyCare/Medicaid coverage are also invited to explore the health plans offered by AmeriHealth.
