​COVID-19 (Coronavirus): Well visits for adult and pediatric members

AmeriHealth has updated its coverage positions for using telemedicine to perform preventive well visits.

AmeriHealth New Jersey members:

  • Providers may use telemedicine services to perform preventive well visits effective March 6, 2020, until 90 days after the end of both the Public Health Emergency and State of Emergency declared by the State of New Jersey in response to COVID-19. This policy change may be re-evaluated during the public health emergency. AmeriHealth New Jersey adheres to the state's coverage requirements.
  • A preventive well visit performed through telemedicine is eligible for reimbursement for new and established pediatric and adult patients when it meets the criteria in the Medical and Claim Payment Policy News Article.

AmeriHealth Pennsylvania members:

  • Effective July 1, 2021, AmeriHealth Pennsylvania providers may not use telemedicine services to perform preventive well visits because there are components to preventive well visits that require face-to-face interaction.
  • To learn more about preventive well visits, please review the policy.​

Due to a steady increase in vaccination rates and decline of COVID-19 cases in our service area, AmeriHealth Pennsylvania has discontinued this policy exception. Effective July 1, 2021, we will revert to our standard preventive well visit coverage.​
